Located in northern Iran on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea, Lahijan holds a significant place in the country's tea production. Standing out with its lush green hills and vast tea gardens, the city also sheds light on the history of tea cultivation in Iran. The otesiberisi.com team followed the journey of Iranian tea from its past to present-day production on site. Our first stop was the Lahijan Tea Museum, which narrates the country's tea history. Diplomat and statesman Mohammad Mirza Kashif al-Saltaneh played a major role in the development of tea cultivation in Iran. Having learned tea cultivation during his time in India, Kashif al-Saltaneh spearheaded the transfer of this knowledge to Iran. Today, the historical artifacts and documents exhibited in the museum reveal how Iran's relationship with tea evolved into a production culture.
